Youth and Children’s Report

Christmas caroling was cancelled due to the weather.  Hopefully we will be able to schedule it for next year.  Many were excited about singing at the different homes.  Instead, we watched a new Disney movie, Snow Dogs, and had treats for the kids.

The elementary age children had a birthday party for Jesus.  They enjoyed cupcakes, games and a gift exchange.  They received some goodies to take home as well.

The youth’s Christmas treat was a night out at Cici’s Pizza.  We had about 30 attend!  Food, fun, and fellowship, what more could you ask for!  There were even some new faces introduced to our group.

We have filled the spot for our 1-3 grade teacher on Super Wednesday nights.  Cathi Lovegrove will be stepping up to lead these children.  Anyone else interested in helping with the PreK, please see me.  We are running short on helpers due to some health issues with some of our adult leaders.  Charlotte Simmons is the only teacher for the PreK class and would love to have someone rotate with her.

Pat and Dave Ball, Jessica Ball and myself delivered the angel tree gifts.  There were 14 families that were assisted this year.  The Elks also put together a food box for these families with all the necessities for a wonderful Christmas dinner!  Everyone was greatly appreciative.

We had 28 children and youth and several adults in our Christmas program this year.  Due to the snow, the date was changed and several were out of town.  We sure did miss those that worked so hard on the play, but were unable to make it.  However, those that filled in at the last minute did a super job!  ‘The Best Christmas Present Ever’ was presented on December 27 with a cover dish meal following.  The kids were amazing!  I had an absolutely wonderful time helping them practice for the play.  Many thanks to all the adults and especially Connie Melon for all her leadership.   hhhmmm….what will Easter bring?

Over Christmas break 23 youth and adults went to Massanutten to ski and also to play at the water park.  It was the first time skiing for all but 3 of the kids and 2 of the adults.  Thank goodness we had Charlie Smiley and Scott Wine, veteran skiers, who helped us throughout the day!  We learned a lot and have the bumps and bruises to prove it!  Wood Grill Buffet was our stop for supper.  Afterwards, we went to my parents home for a bible study and games.  All the kids were on the best behavior, and I was very proud of them.  The next day everyone enjoyed the warm water and air at the water park, soothing all those bumps and bruises from skiing!  Many thanks to all the chaperones on this trip!  You are GREATLY appreciated!!!!
