Children’s/Youth Report March 2010
With all the snow we had in February, our schedules were different than we had originally planned. For two Wednesdays we did not have any activities! Our Valentine Tea was pushed back a week because so many of the children were looking forward to that evening, and I didn’t want to cancel it. Some of our 6th grade boys were kind enough to escort in all the little girls to their seats. They enjoyed finger foods, china teacups and teapots, a lesson and of course valentines. The youth had a special CLUE night for one of the Wednesday night activities. Prof. Plum, Mrs. Whyte, Miss Scarlet, Mrs. Peacock, Col. Mustard, Ms. Green, and Wadsworth the butler all made a wonderful appearance to complete our night! The youth broke up into teams to investigate. The winning team won Kline’s Ice Cream gift certificates. The snow wasn’t all bad. The youth were able to go sledding at Mary Baldwin’s infamous hill! We even met up with 3 other youth that happened to be there sledding on their own. We had sleds, but truck tire inner tubes worked the best! I was able to visit with one family and enjoy lunch with them. Other attempts to visit with folks kept being interrupted by the weather. Some of the ABA youth leaders have been working on our March Watermarks Camp retreat. Much of the planning has been finalized. The trip is set for March 19-21. ONE MORE CHAPERONE IS DESPERATELY NEEDED! Easter egg order sheets have been handed out for several weeks now. We have stressed the importance of this fundraiser and the need for all to be involved some how. Hopefully we will have a great week next week, as it all will come together very soon! Spots are still available to sign up to help. We definitely need people to train in the kitchen to replace Pat and Jessica Ball for next year. The Teen Praise in the Park committee has been working on contacting bands/groups for July 4 and July 27. Boarders for Christ will be holding a skateboard demonstration and competition at Gypsy Hill’s skate park on July 4. They also will have a DJ and their skaters are evangelists. We hope to get other churches involved in this event as well. For Teen Night on July 27, so far we have Freedom Drive and Life Song booked to perform. The Children’s Praise Team (CPT) and Youth Extra have both been working on Sunday evenings for scenes in the Easter play. ‘Dr. Luke and the Case of the Empty Tomb’ will be performed on March 31 at 7pm.
